Secreted antibody, in particular IgG, opsonizes antigenic material and in doing so promotes association (e.g. through Fcg receptors) of the antigenic material with phagocyte membranes. Occupancy of the Fc receptor by the antibody also serves to activate a phagocyte’s killing mechanisms.
